UKClimbing site Classifieds

by Nick Smith 7th March 2008

Example page from UKC We have made a significant upgrade to the section of the site formerly known as 'Databases'. The Crags section has been moved to now be part of Logbooks (which it already was really) and the listings of shops, walls, clubs, etc. have been moved to the new all-singing and all-dancing Classified pages.

You can now use a much more sophisticated searching system to locate Shops, Walls, Clubs, Guides, Instructors, Companies and Accommodation providers in any area by using the map. Alternatively you can use the search boxes to refine your search and drill down to suit your requirements.

We are using Google Maps for the mapping display, and also for location name lookups and travel directions to business locations. e.g., from your home to a climbing wall. With over 1500 listings in the database, we can't show all of them on the map at once, so clusters of listings are shown as a white circle icon that you can click to zoom into that part of the map.

AJAX techniques are used to enable 'live' updates of the page contents, without the cumbersome 'submit' and reload of a page with results. Searching can be done by distance from your location, with a 'search radius' circle drawn over the map, or by the name of the business, with a 'live' drop down menu of matching business names.

Premier Classifieds are enhanced listings which companies can subscribe to for 6 or 12 month periods, with an integrated WorldPay payment system.
