Stanage Struggle fell race

by Nick Smith 21st August 2007

I've never entered a fell race before, but I'm quite tempted by the Stanage Struggle, a 6.1 mile race with 1200 ft of ascent, starting at 11am from Hathersage on Sunday 23rd September 2007.

Road races seem to always have a wide range of abilities, from the elite to the novice fun runners, but I'm a bit nervous that "fell runners" are all a bit hard-core! I don't really want to be left struggling at the back of the field, coughing my lungs up... sounds too much like the nightmare of cross-country running back in school :( I suppose I don't know what I'm letting myself in for, but I regularly run around Stanage Edge, so hopefully the course won't be a complete shock.

Wish me luck!

Update 23rd September: I came down with a nasty cold 5 days before the event which just wiped me out, and I decided it was safer not to run this race, which was a real disappointment. But it is already in my calendar for next year.
