Sheffield Lord Mayor's 10K race 2006

by Nick Smith 9th April 2006

This was my first ever race! It started and finished at the Don Valley stadium in Sheffield, and was 3 laps of a relatively flat course along tarmac paths & roads. I was so nervous lini ng up inside the stadium - I felt like I should have been on TV!

Fortunately I was running with my mate Thea who had raced before, and we had Imogen & Marina to shout encouragement at us, which made a huge difference :)

I ran the first lap very conservatively because I didn't want to set off too fast, but then blew it by going way too fast for the next 2 laps. Eventually came home in 48:26 min, which as Imogen pointed out, had to be a PB because it was my first race. grin.

Some useful training advice was given in this UKClimbing discussion.
