New larger logo & banners on UKClimbing

by Nick Smith 28th November 2007

Example page from UKC Launching today, UKClimbing.com has a new, larger logo and supports larger 728x90 pixel banners. These are already proving very popular with advertisers, who appreciate having more screen space to clearly present their advertising message. We're also seeing more Flash-based adverts, compared to the older animated GIF format.

Previously UKC was based on an 800 pixel wide page design (although the layout is completely flexible), because 800x600 pixels was the most common monitor resolution for many years. However fewer than 4% of web site visitors now use these small monitors, so we are basing our page designs on a 'standard' page of 1000 pixels wide.

At the same time we've increased our photo thumbnail size from 100x75 pixels to 150x105 pixels. These are much easier to look at, and only slightly bigger files to download. It took a while for the server to chug through re-building over 53,000 thumbnails!
