Green products: Silent graphics card
by Nick Smith 11th November 2006I'm building a new PC system based around a Shuttle SD32G5 and Core 2 Duo processor, and I'm looking for a silent (passively cooled) graphics card that fits a PCI Express slot and has two DVI outputs for driving 2 monitors at once. One of the connections needs to be dual-link DVI so it can drive a 30" monitor at full resolution (2560x1600 ?)
Don't care about gaming/3D performance - I only use my PC for photoshop, etc.
I eventually opted for a fanless card based around a NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS, which is very energy efficient (14W at idle, 20W max when doing 2D work), which also means the inside of my PC case has less heat to dissipate. This card is currently driving one 30" LCD at 2560x1600 resolution, and a 2nd 19" card at 1280x1024 with absolutely no problems
