Great Yorkshire Run 10K race
by Nick Smith 22nd August 2007
This brand new race, which runs right past my front door in Sheffield, completely passed me by until I got a flyer through the door today telling local residents about road closes on race day ![]()

I haven't entered a race since April, so I was keen to see if there were still places available for the 2007 race which starts at 10am on Sunday 9th September. I managed to book a place in the race at the last minute, and I'm now dead nervous about lining up with over 5,000 other runners! (gulp) It will be by far the biggest event I've ever raced - I don't think any of my other races had more than 500 local runners.
I really need to get some training runs in if I want to manage a half-decent time. I'll see if I can get my neighbours out to cheer me as I go past! grin.
Update 9th September: Well it was an amazing event - huge numbers of people, and very well organised, but I felt pretty heavy and ran badly
Managed 46:43 mins, well outside my PB set in April, but not too bad given that I didn't really run for May, June or July. I hope to do better in my next run!
